The CUPE Saskatchewan Education Workers’ Steering Committee (EWSC) held its annual all presidents’ meeting on September 28 in Saskatoon, bringing together leaders from education locals across the province.
Affiliated locals gathered to discuss the challenges facing education support workers, including short staffing, underfunding, violence in schools, increasing workloads, and expanding job duties.
“No matter where our members work, they are facing many of the same challenges,” said Karla Sastaunik, chair of the EWSC. “Bringing education locals together gives us the opportunity to share ideas, support one another, and build a stronger voice for education support workers across Saskatchewan.”
The committee also unveiled its 2026-2027 action plan and resource kit as part of its Strength in Numbers campaign. The campaign focuses on building solidarity and coordination among education locals while advancing the long-term goal of provincial bargaining.
“Strength in Numbers is bringing education locals together around shared priorities,” said Kent Peterson, president of CUPE Saskatchewan. “That solidarity is helping build the foundation for provincial bargaining.”
The EWSC represents more than 7,000 education support workers across Saskatchewan and continues to advocate for safer workplaces, better staffing levels, and greater recognition of the vital work education support workers do every day.
