Saskatchewan’s largest union re-elects Kent Peterson as president, continues fight for bigger paycheques and safer workplaces

Delegates at the 2026 CUPE Saskatchewan Convention have re‑elected Kent Peterson as president of the province’s largest union.

“I am honoured to be re-elected by CUPE members representing 31,000 frontline workers from every corner of the province,” said Kent Peterson, president of CUPE Saskatchewan. “The fight for bigger paycheques and safer workplaces continues, and we will defend public services from Scott Moe’s dangerous cuts and contracting out.”

Peterson has served as president of CUPE Saskatchewan since 2024. Prior to that, he served as secretary-treasurer of CUPE Saskatchewan from 2020 to 2024.

“Going forward, we are looking for generational investments into public services, an end to violence at work, a cap on executive salaries in universities, school divisions, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and fair wages for our members,” said Peterson. “We will also be campaigning to end to privatization, kill the Notwithstanding Clause, ban scabs, make it easier to join a union, and rip up the broken essential services legislation,” he added.

Delegates also re-elected Victor Castro as secretary-treasurer for a two-year term. Castro was first elected secretary‑treasurer through a by‑election at the 2025 CUPE Saskatchewan Convention.
