Community survey reveals strong concerns about future of Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre

Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 59 (CUPE 59) has released results of community feedback on the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre in Saskatoon. CUPE 59 launched an online survey to gather input from neighbourhood residents, regular pool users, and families with children enrolled in swimming programs.

“In less than two weeks, we received almost 250 detailed responses, an incredible show of public engagement and a clear signal that this facility matters deeply to the community,” said Eric Calaguian, president of CUPE 59. “People told us they want the pool to remain public, affordable, community-focussed, and accessible to everyone.”

Saskatchewan’s largest union backs Rob Ashton for NDP leader

CUPE Saskatchewan’s Provincial Executive Board, representing 31,000 workers in Saskatchewan, has officially endorsed Rob Ashton to lead Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP).

“Rob Ashton is one of us – a worker – and he has fought for good jobs, safe workplaces, and strong public services his entire life,” said CUPE Saskatchewan President Kent Peterson.

Rob Ashton has been a dockworker and a union member for over 30 years. Today, he is the National President of International Longshore Workers Union (ILWU) Canada. He is also a dad, stepdad, and grandfather.

Registration now open: CUPE Sask. Health & Safety Conference 2026

CUPE has designated 2026 as the Year of Health and Safety. The CUPE Sask. Health & Safety Conference 2026 to be held on April 12 – 14, 2026, in Saskatoon will support members in establishing and maintaining effective health and safety committees. Educational sessions will also provide practical tools to identify and manage psychological health and safety hazards in the workplace.

CUPE hits the ice with the Swift Current Broncos

On Saturday, January 10, CUPE scored big as the proud sponsor of the Swift Current Broncos game.

Throughout the evening, CUPE kept its presence strong with an information table, featuring flyers about the vital services CUPE members provide, along with free raffle tickets for an exciting prize: a Broncos jersey signed by the entire team.

CUPE Saskatchewan President Kent Peterson and CUPE 183 Vice-President Emilie Poh brought energy to the ice, launching T-shirts into the stands with a T-shirt cannon. Peterson also had the honours of dropping the ceremonial puck and drawing the lucky winner of the signed jersey.
