CUPE 3730 members ratify new agreement after strong strike mandate

Members of CUPE 3730 have voted to ratify a new collective agreement following a challenging round of bargaining that included reaching impasse and delivering a strong strike mandate.

The agreement was approved by members in a ratification vote held on May 30.

“This result shows what we can achieve when we stand together,” said Gordon Laing, president of CUPE 3730. “We stayed united, informed, and ready to act through a difficult round of bargaining – and that made the difference.”

The three-year agreement includes:
• Wage increases of 8.5% over three years
• Improvements to paramedical benefits
• Strengthened health and safety language, including new provisions addressing violence in the workplace and interpersonal violence

The employer has not yet ratified the agreement.

“CUPE 3730 members showed real strength this round of bargaining,” said Kent Peterson, president of CUPE Saskatchewan. “When workers are united and ready to act, we can push back and win real improvements.”

CUPE 3730 represents close to 200 education support workers in the Saskatoon Catholic Schools.
