Racial justice strengthens our union and communities

This year is the 60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms Racial of Discrimination, marking a pivotal moment in the global fight against racism and the first of the core international human rights treaties. The progress achieved over the past 60 years, however, is increasingly being jeopardized around the world. On March 21, we recall the victims of the Sharpeville massacre who protested apartheid, pay tribute to all anti-racist global justice activists, and renew our efforts for racial justice.

World Water Day 2025: End water injustice, keep water public

March 22 is World Water Day – a day to highlight the vital importance of water for human life and ecological health and, as such, the need to protect water resources from pollution, privatization, and commercialization. The United Nations General Assembly recognized water and sanitation as fundamental human rights in 2010. These human rights to safe, reliable water and wastewater are being denied to many Indigenous communities in Canada. Water services and resources are also under growing pressure to privatize.
